Eating out: where to get great plant-based meals

The ‘be a Plantier’ badge

The mission at Plantier has always been to inspire and support restaurants and caterers to offer delicious and filling plant-based meals on their menus, to be both inclusive and sustainable. Having had one too many disappointing plant-based meals, which resembled more of a side-dish, and left feeling hungry and disappointed, we wanted to create something that recognised those restaurants and caterers who are offering really great plant-based food. And we know we’re not alone, in a recent survey carried out by the Dansk Vegetarisk Forening, they found that the limited number of vegetarian/vegan options were the greatest limiting factor to reducing the amount of animal produce in their diet (34% of flexitarians, 45% of vegetarians and 46% of vegans).

We’re always looking for new ways to bridge this gap so, we wanted to share with you the launch of the new ‘be a Plantier’ badge!

What does the badge mean?

The badge has been designed to recognise those restaurants and caterers who are already out there creating a variety of mouth-watering plant-based meals on their menus. To help define whether a business qualifies to ‘be a Plantier’, there is a set of criteria, of which all must be met. The essence of these five key elements is fully understanding and embracing this rapidly increasing customer group. It is not just about going through a check-box activity and appeasing a new food ‘fad’, as plant-based and flexitarian is far from this, it is a real paradigm shift.

The badge criteria

  1. Willingness - Open to embrace the growing group of flexitarian / plant-based customers

  2. Inclusive - Offer at least one plant-based starter, main and dessert on the main menu at all mealtimes catering for: breakfast, lunch, dinner, afternoon tea, snacks etc

  3. Accessibility - Plant-based offerings are included on the printed menu and online (if applicable)

  4. Visible - Shown as offering vegetarian / vegan options on Tripadvisor or equivalent platform

  5. Knowledgeable - Kitchen and staff understand the difference between vegetarian and plant-based ingredients/meals and are able to answer any questions a customer may have about them.

Where can you find the badge?

We have spent the last few months working in partnership with the wonderful people at GoGreen Danmark looking at the many diverse restaurants in Copenhagen and reviewing them against the criteria. We have personally eaten in many of them to check out their menus too, it’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it ;)

Whether you’re looking for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert, we already have you covered with a wide range of cuisines. Head to our ‘restaurants / caterers’ page to see our growing list of Plantiers!

You can also see them on the newly revised GoGreen Danmark map which is available now from over 100 destinations, including hotels and tourist information next to Tivoli. This map is a must have for anyone wanting to be greener in their choices, it covers: Food & Beverage, Design & Lifestyle, Accommodation, Beauty, Transport, Services and Experiences.
